Ada Lovelace Day

The Rt Hon Baroness Jacqui Smith promotes the role of women in manufacturing

35 by 35 was the call as our CEO met with colleagues at the House of Commons this morning to consider how we reach the target of women moving to 35% of the manufacturing and technological workforce by 2035.  Women are hugely under represented in this field of work, with the workforce currently sitting at 17% women.  As we celebrate national Ada Lovelace day, we are looking to promote science and technology projects for all our girls from nursery through to post-16.  The Rt Hon Baroness Jacqui Smith, Minister for Skills in the Department for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities, spoke at the event highlighting the importance that women can make to the future through building on school education by following different routes such as the degree apprenticeships.  The event was hosted by Jodie Gosling MP in association with Lloyds Bank.  We also had the opportunity to hear from two young women engineers who are really making a difference and have not allowed any ceiling of aspiration to be placed on them in this male-dominated workplace.  A truly inspirational event.
